Nee Forever Lands Netflix Deal Before Its March 27 Theatrical Release
Nee Forever, a Gen-Z romantic comedy releasing March 27, has landed a Netflix deal before its theatrical run. Music by Ashwin Hemanth, songs by Saregama.
Nee Forever, a Gen-Z romantic comedy built around modern dating culture, launches its music and trailer ahead of a March 27 release. Produced by Pugaz and Eden under Zhen Studios, the film follows a couple who meet through a dating app and deals with the fallout of that digital-first connection. It blends comedy, romance, and family sentiment in what the makers call a love drama for all generations.
The lead actor Sudarshan Govind, who won the Naalaiya Iyakkunar Season 6 title, spoke candidly about his path to this role. He was working in Hyderabad in February 2024 when a call came about a producer looking for a fresh face. “When the producer called directly, I thought someone was pranking me,” he said. “But it turned out to be real. They selected me from a small video I had made.” His mother laughed when she first saw him in character, but the team’s confidence carried him through.

Sudarshan Govind and Archana Ravi, the lead pair of Nee Forever

Archana Ravi, Miss South India 2016, plays the female lead. Director Ashokkumar Kalaivani, making his debut, spent six months developing the story. “I always believed that if you set out to do something good, it will happen,” he said. The film was shot in Pollachi and marks the second production from Zhen Studios after Tharunam.
The production nearly stalled when the producers’ previous film Tharunam underperformed. “I had planned to fund this film from Tharunam’s profits,” said producer Pugaz. “When that didn’t work out, we faced a situation where we might have to stop entirely. But the team’s effort and the director’s persistence pulled us through.” The original cast was also replaced due to issues, with Sudarshan and Archana stepping in.

YG Mahendran, who praised the film’s blend of old and new sensibilities

Veteran actor YG Mahendran, who has a role in the film, said the script’s confidence won him over. “When the director first narrated the story, his belief was infectious,” he said. “This film blends old and new sensibilities beautifully. If the story is good, even small films can become big successes.” Nizhalgal Ravi also appears in a supporting role.
Music director Ashwin Hemanth described the two-year journey of scoring the film. “I was given complete freedom, no restrictions,” he said. “The editor and the full team working together made the music and visuals come out even better than I imagined.” The soundtrack has been picked up by Saregama.

In a notable development, Netflix has acquired the OTT rights to Nee Forever even before its theatrical release. Producer Dhananjayan, who attended the event, highlighted this as a signal. “Netflix buying the film shows that if you make good content, OTT platforms will come to you,” he said. “Everyone should recognise that and act accordingly.”

Nee Forever releases in theaters on March 27.
