Noorusami crosses 100 million watch minutes on ZEE5

Noorusami has crossed 100 million watch minutes on ZEE5, and it got there in about a week. Sasi’s drama premiered on ZEE5 Tamil on August 7 after its theatrical run, and the platform has now stamped the film with its favourite superlative, family blockbuster of the year, on a celebratory poster.

The number is worth noticing because of the kind of film it is attached to. Noorusami has no action set piece to loop; it is built on a true story about a mother who has spent her life on her family and decides she wants a companion for the rest of it, and on what that decision costs her when family and society weigh in. Vijay Antony leads a cast that has Swasika, Lijomol Jose, Karunas, Ajay Dishan and Balaji Sakthivel around him. At the film’s send-off event in June, a row of directors from Vetrimaaran to Pa Ranjith turned up to argue for exactly the qualities the streaming numbers now seem to confirm.

ZEE5’s Tamil and Malayalam business head Lloyd Xavier called the milestone special precisely because the film trades in feelings rather than spectacle, and said its ideas about family, love and finding joy again are connecting with viewers across languages. Sasi, who has called the story deeply personal, said watching this much affection arrive for a film made with honesty and emotion has moved him, and thanked everyone who watched and passed it on.

The film joins Thadayam in clearing the same yardstick on the platform, a sign ZEE5 will keep leaning on emotional Tamil stories to do its heavy lifting. Noorusami is streaming now on ZEE5 in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
