Sudha Kongara on the Challenges of Making Parasakthi

Filmmaker Sudha Kongara has opened up about the arduous journey behind her upcoming period drama Parasakthi, revealing that the concept was initially met with significant skepticism within the industry. Speaking ahead of the film’s release, the director admitted that the script development was fraught with logistical and creative hurdles, with many cautioning that the project might invite criticism.

Kongara, a distinguished protégé of Mani Ratnam, credited her mentor’s philosophy for pushing the project forward. “It was Mani Ratnam sir’s philosophy of ‘making the impossible possible’ that inspired me to transcend limitations and bring this vision to fruition,” Kongara reflected. She noted that without the creative acumen and steadfast backing of producer Aakash Bhaskaran of Dawn Pictures, the film might have remained an unfulfilled dream.

The director described lead actor Sivakarthikeyan as the cornerstone of the film, praising his immediate commitment to the narrative. The ensemble cast also features Ravi Mohan, whose screen presence Kongara singled out as a potent element, and Atharvaa Murali, whose dedication reportedly elevated his character beyond the director’s initial vision. Additionally, Kongara promised a monumental performance from Sreeleela, known primarily for urban roles, stating that her portrayal breathes profound life into the character.

A significant highlight of Parasakthi is its musical score, which marks the 100th film for composer G.V. Prakash Kumar. Kongara termed the composer the architect of her creative ambitions, emphasizing that his score imbues the historical narrative with transcendent promise. Billed as a bold recreation of a pivotal chapter in Indian history, the film is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on January 10, 2026.
